I really wanted to like this one, especially after enjoying The Bachelorette Party by Camilla Sten. And while The Breakup Retreat did take me a while to fully settle into, I do think it ultimately came together in a much stronger way than I expected.

For a large portion of the book, things felt very slow and I struggled a bit with the pacing. However, around the 80% mark, everything really started to pick up. From that point on, I found myself more engaged and genuinely curious about how it would all resolve. It did keep me guessing in a way I wasn’t expecting.

I still had some difficulty connecting with the main character earlier on, especially with how much self-doubt and second-guessing she experienced. But by the end, I do think the story paid off in a satisfying way, even if the build-up was a bit frustrating at times.

Overall, I’d probably land this closer to a 3–3.5 star read for me. The ending really elevated the book, even though the journey getting there wasn’t always smooth.
