Book Review: Reign by Bethan Croome: A Magical Fantasy Full of Folklore and Adventure

I was really excited when I got the chance to read Reign by Bethan Croome. The concept sounded right up my alley, especially with its fantasy setting, folklore, magic, and the idea of a woman hiding as a man while trying to forge her own path.
And there were definitely a lot of things I enjoyed!
The magical elements and creatures were some of my favorite parts of the book. I loved seeing familiar creatures and folklore woven into the story, and I thought those elements added a lot to the world.
I also enjoyed getting to know Fitzroy and Bash, although I would have loved a little more development for some of the characters and relationships. I had a harder time connecting with Niamh than I expected, and I think a little more character development would have helped me understand her better.
The other thing that held this one back from being a five-star read for me was the ending. It felt a little rushed, and after spending so much time building the world and setting up the story, I would have loved a little more time at the end.
Overall, though, Reign was a solid fantasy read with some really fun magical elements and an interesting concept. I enjoyed the story enough that I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what happens next in the series.
