Stormy sea with rocks forming the words "The Cove". Text: "Claire Rose" and "They've been waiting for you." Dark, mysterious mood.

I really enjoyed The Cove by Claire Rose. It gave me strong Stephen King-style gothic horror vibes mixed with thriller elements, which made for a really fun and suspenseful reading experience. The atmosphere had that eerie, unsettling tone that kept me wanting to know what was coming next, and I found myself quickly pulled into the story.

One of the strongest parts of the book for me was Lindsay. I thought she was a solid main character with good development throughout the story, and I enjoyed following her perspective. The supporting characters were interesting as well and added to the mysterious small-town feel that worked so well for the overall tone.

The pacing moved very quickly, which definitely made this a hard book to put down. At times, though, I did wish the story slowed down just a little more so we could get deeper scene-building and more character development in certain moments. I think a bit more atmospheric detail would have made some of the emotional and creepy moments hit even harder.

That said, I still thought this was a really enjoyable read overall, especially for fans of gothic horror, suspense, and fast-paced thrillers. I also think this was a very strong debut novel from Claire Rose, and I’ll absolutely be interested to see what she writes next.
